Getting to know you

A gift from Mark and Ronnette Anderson and family, Jiggy's tree stands serenly in our backyard. It is a beautiful weeping cherry tree. Quite a unique tree, it has fabulous Spring blossoms and strong branches that reach for the ground. I have been anxious to try out the new camera and capture the blossoms in delightful early evening light. When I look out my kitchen window Jiggy's tree is the first thing I see...and it makes me smile.

Zest away girlfriends!

If you do not have a Microplane zester you need one! Go right now... do not even finish reading this entry, and buy yourself my favorite new kitchen gadget! I promise, you will not regret it. I want to zest all the time and find myself dreaming in lemon yellow. Cassandra and Dione were even jealous of my zester, so I made sure they each got one for Mother's Day. Yes, a gift for my girls on mother's day. After all, they are part of the reason I am a mom! Seriously, what are you still doing reading this...GO!

Bringing the Ba-bees home

We would like to welcome the newest addition to the Garlick Press...Dean's Bees! They arrived on Wednesday May 13th 2009 in the cool of a Spring evening. Their arrival was pretty quiet and no one even got stung. Dean is the typical proud papa...everyone who drops by has to go out and see his bees. He has 2 queens...one named Caroline and the other Steve. One hive is a little larger than the other and therefore has been a bit more active. It is so interesting to watch the busy hives with each bee having his own responsibility in order to make the hive run correctly. What an organized society. We love our new bee-utiful family members.

Dean settling in his new ba-bees!

Izzy pretty much hated Dean in his bee suit, but
finally warmed up. Then, she had to follow him around
to see what he was up to.

Here they are! If you look in the middle of the pic,
you can see a small box which contains the queen. The
idea is to leave her in there until her workers can get
her out by eating the plug. By then the hive is ready to
accept her as queen.

Dean is an official apiarist now! We can't wait to
watch this whole process.

Lacrosse Season

Lacrosse is the fastest growing sport in the nation, and such crazy fun to watch. What could be more fun for young boys than playing with sticks and being enouraged to hit each other with them. It's called a poke check. Chet is playing attack this year, and scored his first goal yesterday. We absolutely love spending Saturdays with lacrosse...fun sport, super kids, and great families to sit and cheer with. Go Logan LAX!!!!!

The boys actually wear chest and elbow pads,
along with some serious gloves and helmet,
as the ball is very heavy.

Here is Chet scooping up the ball and cradling it.
